## New in version 6

Along with a completely refreshed user interface, eighteen new exercise sets have been added to the program for version 6 along with new options and features added to many of the existing exercise sets.

### Sudoku

Although not exactly a mathematics activity there does appear to be some evidence that solving sudoku puzzles can improve problem solving skills. And we had quite a few requests to include sudoku as one of the math puzzle activities in the program. There are four difficulty levels you can select from: easy, medium, hard, and expert. You can also change the size of the sudoku grid as well as the size of the numbers in the grid cells.

### Reading Thermometers

There are two tasks you can select from in this temperature reading activity: read and identify, or shade to show. You can also select fahrenheit scale or celsius scale or mix the scales. And to avoid confusion you can choose to display only the scale for the selected task. The temperature range can be set for both fahrenheit and celsius. And the size of the thermometers on the page can be adjusted as well.

### Multiplication Problems

Create word problem templates using special tags that will be replaced with randomly generated values. For example:

<nm1> can cycle <f1> miles per hour. How far can <nm1> cycle in <f2> hours?

Paul can cycle 10 miles per hour. How far can Paul cycle in 6 hours?

### Mixed Basic Operations

The ability to mix basic number operations in a single exercise set has been a rather popular request for some time. Now you can select which operations to include and set the options for each operation including number range and distribution as well as options specific to each operation such as limit sums for addition, limit differences for subtractions, and regrouping for multiplication.

### Custom Questions

Custom questions allows for creation of precisely the question you want. No generators for this question type. You enter the values, names, and objects you want. You can also use a picture for the question as well as a picture for the answer which means you can use pictures of equations, graphs, or tables. The questions are then treated like any other question types in the program with options for font, colors, etc.

### Volume Cubes

New to the geometry activities you can now provide students with some introductory practice in working with volume. There are lots of options for setting the difficulty of the cube stacks. First you can select from three challenge levels which set the complexity of the stacks. And then set the height, width, and depth in cubic units with ranges from 1 to 12.

### Graph Lines in Slope Intercept Form

Graph straight lines from the given equation. Set the number of x and y axis points in the quadrants from 5 to 10. There are also options to control the size of the grid, the colors used to display the lines and labels, and the font used to display the labels.

### Mixed Advanced Operations

Mix any combination of advanced number operations into a single exercise set. For example, addition and subtraction in one set, multiplication and division in another, or all four operations in yet another. Set value ranges separately for each operation from -9 trillion to +9 trillion.

### Time Conversions

New in the time activities is time conversions giving students practice in converting one unit of time to another. Select from 30 conversions including seconds to minutes, minutes to hours, hours to days, days to weeks, weeks to years, and the reverse. Set the range for the generated values, the number of decimals, and whether there should be remainders, no remainders, or decimal remainders in the resulting conversion.

### Inequalities

Provide practice in solving inequalities. Select addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division or any combination of those operations. Choose the side of the equation the variable will appear on (right, left, or mixed) as well as the letter used for the variable. Also choose whether to allow negative values in the inequalities.

### Division Word Problems

You create the problem templates with the innovative word problem editor using tags to represent values that will be replaced with random values. For example:

How many <dvs> cm pieces of <obj> can you cut from a <obj> that is <dvd> cm long?

How many 12 cm pieces of ribbon can you cut from a ribbon that is 72 cm long?

### Volume

Find volume and/or surface area for rectangular prisms, cylinders, cones, spheres, and triangular prisms. Set value ranges for width/diameter, height, and depth. Select the unit of measurement from metric or imperial units and the size of the unit values: small, medium, or large. And choose how you want to handle fractional values: none, decimal, or common.

### Plot Lines

Two different tasks can be assigned with this activity. Students can plot the lines using the given points or they can identify the points the lines intersect. Set the number intersection points for the lines from 2 to 6. Control the number of axis points in each quadrant from 5 to 10 as well as the actual dimensions of the grid as displayed on the page. Options are available to set the colors of the lines and labels as well as the font of the labels.

### Number Lines

Number Lines is a new category of activities in version 6 and includes number lines for integers, decimals, and common fractions. Set the number of points to be placed on the number line from two to ten. Set the range for a random starting point for each line. Select how many points and point values will be displayed on each line. And adjust the color and width of the line as well as the color and font of the point labels.

### Custom Word Problems

Create your own word problems using the new custom word problem creation editor. You design a template for the word problem question using special tags for numeric values, objects, and names, add the formula with tags representing specific functions, and set the template for the answer. The range that the numeric values are randomly generated from is set right in the number tag.

### Temperature Conversion

Convert fahrenheit temperatures to celsius or celsius to fahrenheit. Or mix them up. Set the value ranges separately for each scale: for celsius from -100 to +100 and for fahrenheit from -148 to +220. Select the number of decimal places to round to. And set your preferences for all the typical exercise set options including answer bank, row spacing, font, colors, exercises-per-row, etc.
